Do I have to wear a uniform?
Looks like you’re trying to figure out if college is more “dress code” or “dress for success in your own style.” The answer depends on your course—here’s the runway rundown:
Hairdressing, Beauty, and Media Make-Up students:
Yes, you’ll need to wear a uniform. It’s an industry standard and must be worn during timetabled hours or while representing the college at any event. Uniforms can be purchased from Gear UK, and you’ll need black, flat, fully enclosed non-slip shoes or trainers to complete the look. Think of it as your professional power suit—scissors and style included!
Animal Care (Cambridge & Wisbech Campuses):
Green polo shirt, hoodie, combat trousers (cargos), and a pair of safety boots. Optional sweatshirts and fleeces are available too. These can be bought from LA Clothing.
Construction & Trades:
Steel toe cap boots and safety glasses (these can be bought from the college shop). Some trades require specific items like the following:
- Black combat/cargo trousers (Construction Skills Level 1)
- Work apron (Carpentry Level 2)
- Navy hi-vis overtrousers (Brickwork Level 2)
- Anglian Water Construction Operations: Orange hi-vis PPE required.
Other courses: There isn’t a college-wide uniform, but some programmes (like catering, engineering, or motor vehicle) might require specific kit or protective gear. Your course info or tutor will let you know if you need anything special—otherwise, you’re free to bring your own fashion flair.
